We must be the voice of those African students who’re facing discrimination as they try to leave Ukraine

Let’s think globally, Black Lives Matter all around the world!

Nigerian students in Ukraine wait at the platform at the Lviv railway station on Sunday.

Today, Black people are not the only ones who suffer from racism, discrimination, poverty, police brutality, white supremacy, and so on in the United States, rather in many parts of the world, we see this suffering and discrimination against Black people.

“The U.N. refugee agency has recommended authorities in countries neighboring Ukraine to open their borders to African citizens fleeing the conflict there amid reports that some were being denied access to safety, UNHCR said on Wednesday, but foreign students trying to flee Ukraine say they’re facing discrimination as they try to leave the country by Ukrainian security forces and border officials.”

“For instance, one African medical student told CNN that she and other foreigners were ordered off the public transit bus at a checkpoint between Ukraine and Poland border. They were told to stand aside as the bus drove off with only Ukrainian nationals on board, she says.”

“Rachel Onyegbule, a Nigerian first-year medical student in Lviv was left stranded at the border town of Shehyni, some 400 miles from Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv. In this regard, the Nigerian government has condemned reports that citizens of this country and other African countries have been barred from leaving war-torn Ukraine.”

“Clement Akenboro, an economics student from Nigeria, was already on a train headed to Poland from the Ukrainian city of Lviv when he said he was thrown off by security guards on Sunday.

““They drug all the Black guys from the train,” Akenboro told NPR’s Tim Mak, adding that the experience made him want to cry following the embarrassment he felt from being targeted.”

Let’s be the voice of those African students who’re facing discrimination as they try to leave Ukraine. Let’s think globally, Black Lives Matter all around the world!

To conclude, what we must do is to take action against these racial acts and white supremacy. Because “Lightning makes no sound until it strikes.” — MLK.

We won’t forget that “Our lives begin to end the day we remain silent about the things that matter.” So let’s fight to achieve our rights.

Additionally, “If you’re not ready to die for it, put the word ‘freedom’ out of your vocabulary.” — MalcolmX
